Family Standards and Media

So this past weekend I had a bit of a shock, when I checked my email and saw that my daughter had joined a club online with my email. Now, just a bit of background, when we are at home, if my child wants to use the internet for something specific ( such as looking up something for a school project) they can do so, with me sitting beside them , guiding them to what search tools to use and what websites are appropriate. My kids are 11, 10, and 8 and I feel strongly that they are way to young to be using the internet, without adult supervision. I may be overprotective on this, but at least I feel safe. Or did feel safe.....

Fast forward to the weekend, and my kids had the opportunity to go spend the day with their grandparents and to play with a cousin whom they don't get to see very often. Not only were they excited, but I was a little excited to have a day to myself.. shock!! I didn't think about the fact that grandpa has internet... and there you have it, my kids had the internet all to themselves all day with no supervision. Now, not knocking the grandparents here... they are pretty lax about stuff and they didn't know my stand on internet safety. But now it's time for me to really teach my kids about internet safety and teach them that its NOT ok to sign up for clubs or chat with others etc.. without adult supervision. Now this is just a long winded story, and now to the point of this post... do you have family standards and rules for media for your family? If you do, I want to hear about it! I'm going to be studying up and trying to come up with something good for my family, and I would love your ideas!
Here is two resources I'm going to personally use as I study on what to teach my children, first I will use this article :

I am also going to print these off for the kiddos :

Any other good tips??? :)

M Russell Ballard quote on motherhood

"There is no one perfect way to be a good mother... Each mother has different challenges, different skills and abilities, and certainly different children... What matters is that a mother loves her children deeply and, in keeping with the devotion she has for God and her husband, prioritizes them above all else." Elder M. Russell Ballard

I just love quotes from the General Authorities that speak of motherhood and parenting. It makes me feel so uplifted and inspired. I struggle personally, with guilt, I feel like I can be a much better parent then what I'm being, that others are doing better then I am , etc.. and this quote really inspires me. I am blessed to be a member of this church and to have Heavenly Father on my side, and to have these wonderful quotes from amazing Priesthood holders, to help me in my journey. Love, JL~

I am an addict.....

Great title huh!!! Ok, I admit it. I am an addict. I'm addicted to Pinterest. I love the fact that I can kick back in the evenings ( when im supposed to be writing or planning school lol) and just Pin to my hearts content. But, I have found some awesome things that are great for this blog... so I will be writing on some of the pins, and also, hopefully getting some of the people who pinned it originally to come here and check it out! :) So, be forewarned, I'm gonna be writing up a storm!!! Maybe, if I can keep myself away from Pinterest long enough!!!!
Love, JL~

Some of the projects I have been working on.....

I have been busy busy busy with homeschooling and with some other little projects, so I have neglected my blog here, but I want to share with you some of the projects I have been working on. I have an LDS Prayer Group on facebook : http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/151805041627122/   ( hopefully that will take you to the group!) and I am also a member of my local facebook prayer request group. I have been studying up alot on prayer. It is such a strong resource for us. So I started a small website that is just for prayer requests.... It helps me to keep track of who to pray for and also, others can go there and find real people who are in need of our prayers. You can find it here:
www.hearuspray.blogspot.com and also, you can find me on facebook or email me at jaellekaylor@gmail.com and I will put your prayer requests up and pray for you!

Another neat project I have been working on:

www.hecoa.com   this is the Home Education Council of America's site... I have been blessed to write curriculum for this AMAZING site.. I just finished my first course, a music appreciation course, which will be put up soon, and they have an amazing catalog full of online courses for families. I am blessed to be a part of this and soon I will be writing more curriculum for the site!

Third: I have been homeschooling my babies!!! It takes alot of time, but I'm blessed. I am thankful to be an active part of this amazing group on facebook : http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/6303504230/ ( 0nce again, hope that gets you there, but its called LDS Homeschoolers) and they are a wonderful resource for LDS homeschoolers, and also just really great people who are great at brainstorming ways to help us raise our families!

So that is just a few of the things I have been working on, so I have neglected this blog, but I feel so strongly that I need to get back to work on this... its important!!!

With Love, JL~
